Congratulations are in order to the Ventura County Hogs for their win over the California Blue Knights. The Hogs won 34-7!
We want to thank all of the businesses who sponsored the game and of course everyone who came out in support of the Hogs and Ventura PAL. The numbers are still coming in but it looks like we will make over $7,000 for Ventura PAL! That’s great news. All this money will stay local and will help to make a difference in the lives of our local youth through after school programs and other enrichment activities. Thanks again for your support.
- The Hogs unfortunately lost this game 7-0
- Congratulations Hogs! Hogs win 14-6…The Hogs beat the Orange County Lawmen at this game on March 6. It was a close game but the Hogs defense was the deciding factor. Ventura Police Officer Kyle Robinson and Sgt. Brian Hewlett both scored defensive touchdowns for the Hogs. A huge thanks, goes out to the OC Lawmen for being fantastic hosts! We h ope to see you next year and continue on what could be a great tradition and rivalry
- Congrats Hogs on your 6-0 victory!

On November 24, 2009 over ninety families from throughout Ventura received a complete Thanksgiving dinner consisting of turkey, potatoes, dressing, vegetables, rolls, beverages, and pie. The meals were generously donated through City of Ventura employees, the Ventura Police Officers Association (VPOA), and the Ventura Police Activities League (PAL).
Families receiving the dinners were selected by school administrators from the various *PEAK (Program Enrichment for After-school Kids) sites throughout the Ventura Unified School District (VUSD). This is the seventh year running for the Thanksgiving Dinner Donation program which continues to grow year after year. Said Judy Devine, Community Services Manager, PAL Board member, and one of the Coordinators of the program, “This program is entirely supported by our community and this year the level of generosity was unprecedented. These contributions made it possible to provide full meals to all these families. On behalf of everyone involved in the program I want to say thank you to our community, the VPOA, PAL, and to all the volunteers who make this day possible needless to say, without your involvement this would not be possible.”
The meals were packaged and picked up at the Westpark Community Center on Tuesday the 24. Assistant Police Chief, and PAL President, Ken Corney said, “The Ventura Police Department, VPOA, and all of us associated with PAL are so pleased that we were able to help make a difference in these families’ lives. We hope these meals will help bring families together on Thanksgiving and we want to wish everyone a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.”
The PEAK Program, which was established in 2001, is a partnership between the City of Ventura’s Community Services Department, Ventura PAL, and the VUSD. Daily program components include academic assistance, nutritional snacks and enrichment activities that build character, including various sporting activities, arts, cultural programs, and other educational assistance programs. PEAK facilities include Sheridan Way, DeAnza, Montalvo, Portola, Lincoln, EP Foster, and Westpark Community Center. For more information please visit www.cityofventura.net or www.venturapal.org.
