The Ventura Police Department’s (VPD) non-profit charitable foundation, the Ventura Police Activities League (PAL), will be holding a charity carwash fundraiser on Sunday, August 29, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The carwash is being held for a local teen and his family, Nikko Slife, who are in need of financial assistance in order to acquire a new prosthetic arm for Nikko. All proceeds from the carwash will go directly to the Slife family. Please note, the car wash will be held in the Buena High parking lot on Wake Forest Avenue. As a point of reference the lot is directly across the street from the US Post Office on Wake Forest.
Ventura PAL decided to hold the carwash fundraiser after receiving a letter from Nikko’s parents requesting any financial assistance in order to help pay for Nikko’s prosthetic. Even after insurance and other donations the family was still in need of approximately $14,000.00. Said Ventura PAL President, Sergeant Sam Arroyo, “PAL’s primary goal is helping to guide our youth to a brighter future and simply put, PAL is honored to pitch in and make a difference in not only Nikko’s life, but in the lives of his friends, family, and all those around him.” Continued Arroyo, “Hopefully on Sunday with the community’s support we can get the Slife family closer to fulfilling their goal of getting a new prosthetic arm for Nikko.”
Nikko is fifteen years old and attends Buena High School. He was born with one complete arm and one partially developed arm to the elbow. The prosthetic piece will allow Nikko to partake in all types of strength training, some sports activities, and other athletic activities. The prosthetic piece has a quick release wrist and an array of attachments to help make Nikko’s movement easier.
Local business are also getting involved and Ventura PAL would like to thank the following companies for their support: Chipotle Mexican Grill for providing discount coupons for one free burrito or burrito bowl with the donation of a car wash, Jersey Mikes for providing buy one get one free coupons with the donation of a car wash, Mission Linen Supply for donating towels, Santino’s pizza for providing discount coupons with the donation of a car wash, and finally, Sheeler’s Pressure Washing and Detailing Mobile Car Wash for donating the pressure washer and spotless free water for that perfect carwash!
The VPD and Ventura PAL hope you swing by on Sunday to not only get your car washed but to make a difference in our community. If you can’t make it by on Sunday and wish to make a donation please send your donation to Ventura PAL “Nikko Fund” at PO Box 3262, Ventura, CA 93006. You can also visit www.venturapal.org to make a donation. For additional information please contact Officer Frank Padilla at 805-207-8568.

Tournament Benefactor — The Players Club -
Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »
On Friday, June 11, 2010, we will be holding our 13th Annual Golf Tournament proudly presented by Aera Energy at the Olivas Links Golf Course in Ventura, CA. Last year, the event raised over $33,000 in support of our local youth and after school activities and programs.
This event is our main fundraiser of the year and our goal for 2010 is to beat our total from last year; but we can’t do it without YOUR generous support.
The day promises to be a fun filled day of golf, prizes, great food (lunch will be provided by Scooter’s BBQ), and camaraderie. The best part is all money raised stays local and helps support our goal of providing our youth with positive after school activities to counteract the risk factors often present in their daily lives.
Players will have an opportunity to win cars, awards, and cash prizes ranging from $500 to over $250,000, through various Hole In One, putting contest, and other specialty holes.
Now here’s how you can help us continue to make a difference in the lives of our local youth…..
We want to thank all of you in advance for your support. If you have any questions about the golf tournament or the PAL program, please call PAL President, Sergeant Sam Arroyo at 805.339.4441, or PAL Secretary Kevin Jeffries at 805.339.4443. You can also reach Sam or Kevin via e-mail at sarroyo@venturapd.org or kjeffries@venturapd.org.
